TOUR LEADER RONALD HARMON

Professor Ronald Harmon is Professor Emeritus of Spanish and Portuguese at California State University, Fullerton, where he continues to teach classes in Hispanic language, literature, culture and linguistics. He is an expert in South American history, culture, language, and literature, and has traveled extensively in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru. He served as the coordinator of the Latin American Studies Program at California State University, Fullerton.

  Depart for Santiago.

• SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27 – SANTIAGO

  Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Later get acquainted with Santiago on a city tour. (L)

• SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 – SANTIAGO

  After visiting the poet Pablo Neruda’s hillside house at Isla Negra journey to Valparaiso with its cluster of crazy houses.  Enjoy lunch in the modern resort city of Vina del Mar. (BL)

• MONDAY, OCTOBER 29 – PUCON

  Fly to Temuco, learn about the Mapuche Indians at the regional museum and visit the central market before driving to Pucon in the heart of the Chilean lake district. (BL)

• TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 – PUCON

  Today take an excursion to Villarica, one of South America’s most active volcanos. (BL)

• WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31 – PUERTO VARAS

  Enjoy the spectacular views of snow-capped Volcan Osorno while driving to the Olguita’s Farm for a folkloric show on the way to Puerto Varas. (BL)

• THRUSDAY, NOVEMBER 1 – TERMAS DE PUYUHUAPI HOTEL AND SPA

  Fly from Puerto Montt to Balmaceda. Continue on to Puerto Chacabuco where the Patagonia Express catamaran waits to take you on a cruise through the southern fjords and channels to reach the world-class resort of Termas De Puyuhuapi Hotel and Spa. (BD)

  Spend a relaxing day enjoying the outdoor thermal pools, exploring Queulat National Park with its Hanging Glacier, or boating on Dorita Bay.  (BLD)

• SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3 – PUERTO CHACABUCO

  Enjoy a full day excursion on a catamaran slowly cruising through narrow canals until you reach the beautiful Laguna San Rafael Glacier, accessible only by ship.  (BLD)

• SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4 – PUNTA ARENAS

  Transfer from Puerto Chacabuco to the airport at Balmaceda for a flight to Punta Arenas.  (BD)

• MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5 – PUERTO NATALES

  This morning tour Punta Arenas, capital of Chile’s southernmost region located at the foot of the Andes on the Straits of Magellan.  See the mansions and buildings resulting from the late 19th century wool boom of this bustling port city.  (BL)

• TUESDAY. NOVEMBER 6 – TORRES DEL PAINE

  This morning board a catamaran via the Fjord Ultima Esperanza to the Glacier Serrano where there will be time to explore.  From there, take a zodiac via the Rio Serrano to Torres del Paine National Park.  (BL)

• WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7 – TORRES DEL PAINE

  Tour this magnificent national park with its varied lakes, waterfalls, lagoons and abundant wildlife.  (B)

• THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8 – PUERTO NATALES

  In the morning journey to the Laguna Azul before departing for Puerto Natales.  On the way, stop at the Milodon Cave. (B)

• FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9 – SANTIAGO

  Before flying to Santiago stop at the Otway penguin colony.  Tonight enjoy a delightful dinner show at the Los Buenos Muchachos.  (BD)

• SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10 – SANTIAGO

  Today relax on a winery tour at Vina Concha y Toro.  Afterwards explore the beautiful handicraft market, El Pueblito Los Dominicos. (B)
